Survivor Philippines 2009 Season 2 Audition Day 1

Today, 27th of March 2009 is the first day of Survivor Philippines 2009 Season 2 Audition at SM North Edsa. The next audition day will be on 28th of March 2009.

Last year, Survivor Philippines 2008 dominated the tv ratings. This year, will it be the same line-up of players as last year?

Will there will be another mischievous Marlon Carmen? Or will we see a much treacherous player?

We just hope another “Nanay Zita” in the game. We don’t want pissing ourselves off while watching “educated adults” who don’t even know how to cook rice. Sheesh!

For the “Love”, or for the “Money”?

Many Filipinas marry foreigners for money, not love

CHERYL ARCIBAL, GMANews.TV
MANILA, Philippines- The inability of the Philippine economy to produce high-paying jobs especially for women has pushed Filipinos to marry foreigners as a way to provide for their families, the study Country Gender Assessment by regional lender Asian Development Bank said.

The number of Filipinos marrying foreigners have also tripled in just a span of eight years from 7,819 in 1998 to 24,954 in 2006.

It is also estimated that currently, 300,000 Filipinos, 92 percent of whom are women, are married to foreigners mainly from the United States, Japan, Canada, the United Kingdom and South Korea.

“(I)n the Philippines (as elsewhere), the phenomenon of ‘mail order brides’ is not uncommon. In the absence of employment prospects and with families to care for, many women view marrying a foreigner as an easy ticket to an overseas life with steady remittances. With the advent of the Internet, chat rooms, and text messaging the marriage migration numbers are on the rise,” the ADB said.

Data from The Commission on Filipinos Overseas showed that Filipino women marrying men from East Asian countries tend to be younger and less educated. These foreign men also usually are at least 40 years older than their Filipino brides.

“Reports indicate that more women apply for ‘marriage visas’ to Japan as a result of Japan reducing its official demand for entertainers,” ADB said.

In 2005 Japan has imposed a stricter immigration policy following Tokyo’s inclusion in a US watchlist of high incidence of human smuggling.

ADB said Manila should undertake measures to protect Filipino women as those who marry foreigners that they do not know face enormous risks.

“Many of the men live in remote areas and are unsuccessful with women from their own culture, who they feel are spoiled and have too many freedoms. Instead, they want women with ‘traditional’ family values who, once in the country, have nowhere to turn and are completely at their mercy,” ADB said.

Among the recommendations of the ADB was to tap remittances from overseas Filipinos for productive investment and sustainable livelihood opportunities for women so that migration becomes a choice rather than a necessity. - GMANews.TV

Well, this has been going on since the late 90’s even in the 80’s kaso penpal system. The snail mail was popular in those days, madali lang ang puhunan sa paghahanap ng “porenger” ngayon. Like I said in “Conclusion in Subic Rape Case” , for as low as 10, 15 per hour naka-chat ka na, may webcam ka pa. Bonnga! Diba? :D With matching headset, no need to type. Talk real-time, sosi!

IMO lang it’s not just the economy, habang tumatagal nagiging less educated kasi ang mga pinoy, less ‘masipag’. Ang daming tambay na kabataan ngayon, worse, they populate the society becoming the “decay” of the community.

I can’t say it’s because of the Philippine Economy, hell, ang dami pa din nakakapag MALL ano. Find ways to provide something to their homes kahit ang tataas na ng presyo ng bilihin. If i’m not mistaken, mas marami pa ata ngayon ang kumakain sa Jollibee, McDonalds at kung saan saan pang fast food.

Filipinos should really educate themselves, not just get it from school. Iilan na lang din ang umaalam ng current events. Try asking students nowadays, and see if I’m wrong.

Survivor Philippines – Marlon Carmen voted out

In the November 24, 2008 episode of Survivor Philippines, Paolo Bediones counted the votes and it ended with 1 vote against Charisse, 1 vote against Cris (From Marlon) and 4 votes against Marlon. There was no need to count the remaining votes because the minimum of 4 votes needed to be voted out had been reached by Marlon. Both admired and hated by many, Marlon Carmen played the game the way he wanted to. He didn’t care if he steps on other people just to reach his goal. Unfortunately, though he is sly, mischievous and manipulative, it wasn’t enough to get him to the finals.
