Rodolfo Noel “Jun” Lozada Jr. refuse to bail himself out

Rodolfo Noel “Jun” Lozada Jr. was arrested yesterday April 29, 2009 by members of the MPD (Manila Police District). The warrant was served a day after it was issued by the Manila Metropolitan Trial Court.

Former presidents, Mrs. Corazon “Cory” Aguino and Mr. Joseph Estrada was said to be saddened by the idea of Lozada was arrested for telling the truth. However, in the eyes of the law nothing is true until it is proven in court. But there are already too much anomaly revealed when Gloria Macapagal Arroyo was elected president as far as I can remember.

I’m sure about Mrs. Aguino, but I don’t know about Estrada. He’s like rowing his boats on two river at the same time. One day he’s siding with President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo after he got his pardon, and now this?

Anyways, the man who reveals the controversial National Broadband Network (NBN) said that he accept the arrest warrant without qualms. He put his fate and trust that his lawyer will correct everything.

Those high government officials who are involved with the NBN deal were arrest yesterday also on charges of perjury.

Rodolfo Noel “Jun” Lozada Jr. was a government consultant, accompanied by supporters when he was arrested. He did not resist arrest when he was picked up by the lawmen from De la Salle Greenhills in San Juan City.

SPO4 Alfredo Valenzuela and SPO2 Pedro Flores, the arresting lawmen was said they had to wait for 20 minutes because Lozada will not emerge with his lawyer Jose Manuel Diokno. He was temporarily detained at the office of the Detective Jail Management Section.

Corazon Aguino commented “he was a victim of injustice”.

“I’m deeply saddened by the news that Mr. Jun Lozada has been placed under arrest on allegations of perjury. I shall pray for him that he may be delivered from harm and injustice.”

“I appeal to all freedom-loving Filipinos to support Mr. Jun Lozada in every way possible and to make it known loud and clear that he is not alone,” she said.

Estrada said that his arrest was obvious, and all political.

Now I wonder, how this will end? There is an old saying that the truth shall set you free, not the other way around. But we are living a world where power and greed combined. Those who are in position where they can manipulate the law, where there are already many scandals Gloria Macapagal Arroyo was involved yet with power and greed the outcome was manipulated.

One thing I hope for the moment for Lozada though, I hope the prison you are detained in have cable so you can watch Manny Pacquio Vs. Ricky Hatton Fight on May 2. Damn, that will be a major bummer!

Lozada Comments: Balitaan nyo na lang ako sa laban ni Manny Pacquiao at Ricky Hatton, baka walang cable tv sa preso hehe

Cha-cha, hope or bluff?

The word cha-cha has been in newspapers, tv or radio, it’s virtually everywhere. Now, it’s not just a word for the “cha-cha” dance anymore. Cha-cha or Charter Change, can be track down its roots from every Philippine President after Former President Corazon “Cory” C. Aguino. They all have their personal ways of attempts to put it into reality.

I read once, by Winnie Monsod’s “Is Charter Change really necessary?”

Quotes, “-one finds that the motivation is really self-interest” … aren’t all of them Madam Winnie :)

Seriously, aren’t there REAL patriotic politician nowadays? It’s all about the money, all that dan-dan-di-ri-dum-dum…

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo guise its rise with promoting economic growth and development, of generating jobs and reducing poverty.

C’mon, here’s the direct real deal. Even if we change the contitution and our country leaders will only listen to their greed then we are only going nowhere. It will only, will be the same. Just as when we topple down the Dictatorial Reign of Ferdinand Marcos.

Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA) reviews is now on the hands of the Senate

Visiting Forces Agreement or VFA has been a long issue since we can remember it. Even without the controversial “rape case” issue of Smith, VFA is always in question if it really benefits us aside from money. United States is the Philippines’ largest source of foreign military financing which valued at an average of $30 million annually and they share with the expenses for the implementation of the Join Defense Assessment or JDA. It cost approximately $400 million ever since the 10-year period of the VFA.

Overtime, do we see this improvement?

United States have already lots of issues, not just in economy but also in politics. With the recent events, they’re like magnets right now for more terrorism.

Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago, chair of the Legislative Oversight Committee on the VFA is now responsible in reviewing VFA. Cabinet Secretary Silvestre Bellow III comments, “The review of the VFA is the mandate of the Senate, If the Senate’s position is to review the implication of the VFA, we have to respect that as a co-equal body.”

One more thing that is very controversial is that no one is aware of the sudden departure of Smith, not even his lawyer Jose Justiniano.

But to think that their Special Forces combined, will the presidency aspirant Senator Mar Roxas will be a great asset in the upcoming presidency?

Impacts of Climate Change Catastrophe of the Philippines

Since the 1st week of April it was scorching hot, the sun rises early and the temperature in the morning is like in the noontime already. Then lately with the same weather, out of nowhere the skies darken and it started raining like it was already rainy season. The hole in our ozone layer is getting big, with all the pollutions killing our planet. Global warming, signos, climate change, all of this should not be neglated issue.

Indeed, the effects of abusing our mother earth is showing her syptoms. Soon, we will face its her wrath.

A report released by Greenpeace Southeast Asia one of the environmental watchdog, the Philippines is “on its way to a major climate change catastrophe, unless the government takes urgent and ambitious action to avert a disaster that will put millions of Filipinos at risk”.

The Philippines consist of thousand islands, and right now our country is experiencing 1 meter sea level rise.

Imagine what will be left of the Philippines is it will go beyond 1-meter. What will be left of our 7,100+ islands, imagine coastals flooded with sea water, and Mall of Asia sunked.

Climate change is no joke my friends. We have witnessed its effects in the unprecedented strength and number of super-typhoons in recent years. Let’s be aware and take this issue seriously, the earth is a living planet and like us it can heal itself.

LPG problems, Manny Villar to the rescue

– GMANews.TV

Help our stranded OFW

RP posts told: Seek amnesty for stranded OFWs

02/11/2009

MANILA, Philippines – Philippine embassies and consular offices in the Middle East should make vigorous representation with host governments and seek amnesty for distressed, stranded, and overstaying OFWs, a group of migrant workers said on Wednesday.

“It is now imperative for all Philippine posts abroad especially in the Middle East to work for amnesty for stranded and distressed OFWs and it could possibly be done via diplomatic way,” said John Leonard Monterona, regional coordinator of Migrante – Middle East.

Migrante’s appeal followed an advisory by the Philippine consulate general in Jeddah for Filipinos to avoid unscrupulous groups or individuals offering shortcuts in leaving Saudi Arabia.

Consul General Ezzedin Tago said in his appeal that OFWs who wish to leave should not fall for offers of immediate repatriation for a fee because the Saudi government has no existing amnesty offer.

If ever there is an amnesty offer, it would only be for those who overstayed their umrah, or haj visas, he said. He explained that workers who left their employers are not covered by such amnesties and they could end up languishing in deportation centers while local authorities check on their records.

Ambassador Antonio P. Villamor has also repeatedly issued similar advisories in Riyadh.

Migrante has noted an increasing numbers of stranded and overstaying OFWs in the Middle East, the latest addition of which include 37 who have camped out under the Khandara overpass in Jeddah in hopes of being rounded up by the immigration police for immediate deportation.

“According to our Migrante-Jeddah chapter, the numbers of distressed OFWs in Khandara bridge swell to about 100 during day time. It is to their observation that there are a considerable numbers out there,” Monterona added.

Monterona said that while it was well for Philippine mission officials to keep reminding OFWs against absconding from their work and to abide by the laws of host countries, it was also incumbent on the missions to assist OFWs in distress. And one way of assisting distressed or overstaying OFWs is to work for an amnesty program.

“We would like to remind our diplomatic officials that many of the distressed and stranded OFWs are victims of labor malpractices, nonpayment of salaries, overworked, and sexual and physical abuses committed against them by their employers, thus they abscond from their abusive employers,” Monterona said.

“That is why RP posts abroad are their to protect the interests of OFWs, and represents OFWs interests in relation to the host government’s internal or immigration policies,” he added.

Pro-active measures

Monterona said if absconding is a crime in most of the Middle Eastern countries, Philippine diplomats must not think and treat them that way, but instead provide them swift assistance for the early resolution of their cases.

“Our distressed OFWs who are often caught between the devil and deep blue sea would choose to be apprehended by immigration police, hoping for their eventual repatriation,” he added.

“That is why pro-active actions and measures must be taken by our diplomatic officials, first to swiftly approach distressed, stranded and overstaying OFWs especially those in Khandara bridge to get their names, make a list and record their respective cases, and push for a possible amnesty deal for their repatriation,” Monterona said.

He said it’s not really impossible to secure an amnesty program from the host countries, including the government of Saudi Arabia.

He cited what happened in 2007 when the Saudi Arabia granted amnesty to 925 overstayers and mostly runaway OFWs or those facing labor cases after the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in Manila ordered the consulate in Jeddah to make representations with Saudi authorities.

Then Consul General Pendosina N. Lomondot not only made official representations but also tapped personal friends among Saudi immigration, labor and foreign affairs officials.

Armed with a blanket authority by the national government, Saudi officials allowed even those who had labor cases to leave the kingdom, all at the expense of their own government. - GMANews.TV

For the “Love”, or for the “Money”?

Many Filipinas marry foreigners for money, not love

CHERYL ARCIBAL, GMANews.TV
MANILA, Philippines- The inability of the Philippine economy to produce high-paying jobs especially for women has pushed Filipinos to marry foreigners as a way to provide for their families, the study Country Gender Assessment by regional lender Asian Development Bank said.

The number of Filipinos marrying foreigners have also tripled in just a span of eight years from 7,819 in 1998 to 24,954 in 2006.

It is also estimated that currently, 300,000 Filipinos, 92 percent of whom are women, are married to foreigners mainly from the United States, Japan, Canada, the United Kingdom and South Korea.

“(I)n the Philippines (as elsewhere), the phenomenon of ‘mail order brides’ is not uncommon. In the absence of employment prospects and with families to care for, many women view marrying a foreigner as an easy ticket to an overseas life with steady remittances. With the advent of the Internet, chat rooms, and text messaging the marriage migration numbers are on the rise,” the ADB said.

Data from The Commission on Filipinos Overseas showed that Filipino women marrying men from East Asian countries tend to be younger and less educated. These foreign men also usually are at least 40 years older than their Filipino brides.

“Reports indicate that more women apply for ‘marriage visas’ to Japan as a result of Japan reducing its official demand for entertainers,” ADB said.

In 2005 Japan has imposed a stricter immigration policy following Tokyo’s inclusion in a US watchlist of high incidence of human smuggling.

ADB said Manila should undertake measures to protect Filipino women as those who marry foreigners that they do not know face enormous risks.

“Many of the men live in remote areas and are unsuccessful with women from their own culture, who they feel are spoiled and have too many freedoms. Instead, they want women with ‘traditional’ family values who, once in the country, have nowhere to turn and are completely at their mercy,” ADB said.

Among the recommendations of the ADB was to tap remittances from overseas Filipinos for productive investment and sustainable livelihood opportunities for women so that migration becomes a choice rather than a necessity. - GMANews.TV

Well, this has been going on since the late 90′s even in the 80′s kaso penpal system. The snail mail was popular in those days, madali lang ang puhunan sa paghahanap ng “porenger” ngayon. Like I said in “Conclusion in Subic Rape Case” , for as low as 10, 15 per hour naka-chat ka na, may webcam ka pa. Bonnga! Diba? :D With matching headset, no need to type. Talk real-time, sosi!

IMO lang it’s not just the economy, habang tumatagal nagiging less educated kasi ang mga pinoy, less ‘masipag’. Ang daming tambay na kabataan ngayon, worse, they populate the society becoming the “decay” of the community.

I can’t say it’s because of the Philippine Economy, hell, ang dami pa din nakakapag MALL ano. Find ways to provide something to their homes kahit ang tataas na ng presyo ng bilihin. If i’m not mistaken, mas marami pa ata ngayon ang kumakain sa Jollibee, McDonalds at kung saan saan pang fast food.

Filipinos should really educate themselves, not just get it from school. Iilan na lang din ang umaalam ng current events. Try asking students nowadays, and see if I’m wrong.
